ACCT Philly Traces Rescue Transfers After Welfare Concerns

ACCT Philly is working to account for dogs transferred to a New Jersey rescue partner after concerns emerged about their care. Reporting published October 24, 2026, describes protective steps and continuing questions involving Gone Rogue Girls Rescue.

Executive Director Sarah Barnett told local reporters that the shelter had been unable to obtain answers directly from the rescue. ACCT Philly reported removing dogs from the organization’s care, while efforts continued to establish the whereabouts and outcomes of previously transferred animals.

According to NBC10 Philadelphia, the rescue had received more than 100 dogs during a partnership dating to 2024. That historical transfer total is not a confirmed count of missing dogs. The reviewed reporting does not establish how many animals remain unaccounted for.

The concerns include the death of Biggie Smalls, a senior dog with medical needs. Barnett told 6abc that ACCT Philly had confirmed he was shot. NBC10 reported allegations involving a biting incident, while noting that police or animal control had not verified the circumstances. Responsibility and the sequence of events remain unresolved.

ACCT Philly has created an online portal containing medical histories for dogs transferred to the rescue, NBC10 reported. The purpose is to provide information to people currently caring for those animals. Other rescue partners have also supplied information about dogs subsequently transferred to them.

Barnett said the shelter already requires references and previous shelter experience when approving rescue partners. ACCT Philly is reviewing its arrangements and considering changes to that process. Those considerations should not be described as completed policy reforms.

Pemberton Township police told reporters they were aware of the allegations but declined further comment. NBC10’s attempts to contact the rescue were unsuccessful, and its apparent closure had not been independently confirmed with its operators.

Why This Matters for Animals

Animal protection depends on accountability after a shelter transfer. Knowing where dogs are, who is caring for them and which medical needs require attention can support their continuing welfare.

The records portal and tracing effort address those practical needs. A complete accounting and any legal findings remain outstanding.
